The largest intake available for the Supercharged EA837 3.0T is here.
These kits are currently in the pre-order phase. We have purchased a C6.5 A6 to begin development on, and once we have reached the end of our pre-order we will begin production for all of those who have put their orders in. Images are for reference only and are not pictured on a C6.
Pre-Order deadline: December 31, 2024
Due to popular demand, we are weighing the idea of producing an Omega 4" titanium intake for the C6 A6 3.0T. We need you as a community to cement your interest in this to allow us to spend the required development time it takes to create a new product. We only need 10 orders to make this project a reality! If we do not reach our goal due to lack of interest we will not be able to proceed with this project.
This massive 102mm intake is a no-holds-barred air-consuming machine for Stage 1 through Stage 3 ported charger cars that need the extra CFM to push their build a bit further.
Pressure Drop
While most throttle body upgrades measure 3.5" across, the pressure drop over an 84mm throttle body is multiplied approximately 6-8x through an 18" long intake tube. With airflow and pressure ratio being such a crucial part of power production in an EA837 engine, we started experimenting with larger intake sizes.
While monitoring pressure drop at the throttle, we found that our new 4" intake reduced pressure loss, thereby freeing up top-end power. We know that for the die-hard performance addict, every 1/10th counts.
This is your 1/10th.
Titanium... why?
The decision to go with CP1 titanium was not one we took lightly. Titanium is not a cheap material to work with, but ignoring the benefits of this aerospace material was not something we could overlook.
Titanium is what we like to call "functionally beautiful". Aside from being one of the most lightweight metals available, titanium has a very low heat transfer rate (16 W/m-K) compared to aluminum (152 W/m K), which means it is highly resistant to heat transfer from the engine bay. Intake temperatures play a key role in power production on the EA837 supercharged engine. While other manufacturers sidestep this issue by powder coating or heat shielding their intake tubes, we opted to go straight to the source by choosing a material that will naturally keep intake temps down.
In addition to its excellent thermal properties, titanium has a much higher strength-to-weight ratio than aluminum, meaning that much thinner tubing can be used in our intakes. This means larger internal diameters when compared to aluminum with the same outer diameter. Our 3.5" titanium intake, as a result, boasts a 5% increase in intake area when compared to a 3.5" aluminum intake. A higher strength-to-weight ratio also means lighter parts.
Our 102mm Omega intake measures in at a staggering 30% increase over our 3.5" titanium intake in terms of inlet area.
Titanium Grade 4, also known as titanium CP1, is the strongest of all commercially pure titanium grades. It combines excellent corrosion resistance with good strength and toughness. This means that your intake will continue to look beautiful well past your engine's expiration date. The lack of paint or powder coating also ensures that the finish will hold up for the long run! Occasional cleaning is all that's required.
Velocity Stack
Years of back to back testing on naturally aspirated and turbocharged engines has shown consistent gains from smoothing and accelerating the transition of air from the filter through the intake. By reducing turbulence in the intake, your supercharger doesn't have to work as hard to process the incoming air. This further reduces pressure drop at the charger inlet and frees up some extra air density. Denser air = more boost!
Thoughtful Heat Shield Design
We took special care when designing our heat shield/air duct. By increasing the volume in the lower area of the heat shield, we were able to maximize airflow around the filter without compromising heat separation. Our heat shield is designed to mate up perfectly to the edge of the large factory air duct, forcing air directly toward the filter and into the lower pocket of the heat shield, not over it. We further improved airflow by leaving the area under the headlight unobstructed, allowing for two large sources of air into the filter area. The backside of our shield didn't go to waste either, providing an improved air channel for the radiator air to pass over the manifolds, cooling the cats/test pipes, and drawing hot air out the bottom of the car and away from the engine bay as Audi intended.
