As most RS owners know, if you're going for big power then a 5" intake system is a must.
We are proud to dive head-first into the DAZA platform with a 5" titanium intake that's earned the Omega name we've become known for.
A Perfect Fit
We know there are other titanium intakes on the market, but we found that a number of our clients weren't happy with the fitment of the intake tubes on these other systems, and wanted something that looked and fit like OEM.
We took this information and got to work designing a kit that fit as well as the 4" options, but with our signature titanium style. What we came up with is a classy, powerful solution available in multiple finishes that fits just as well as the stock intake!
Anti-Pressure Drop
While your upgraded turbo inlet has a 4 inch diameter, the inlet itself is very short. Due to the length of the intake on the RS3/TTRS platform, reducing pressure drop between the filter and turbo inlet is critical.
While monitoring pressure drop at the turbo inlet, we found some room for improvement on a full 4" intake. Our 5" setup relieved pressure drop and allowed the turbo to breathe, freeing up over 20whp while running a lower wastegate duty cycle!
Titanium... why?
The decision to go with CP1 titanium was not one we took lightly. Titanium is not a cheap material to work with, but ignoring the benefits of this aerospace material was not something we could overlook.
Titanium is what we like to call "functionally beautiful". Aside from being one of the most lightweight metals available, titanium has a very low heat transfer rate (16 W/m-K) compared to aluminum (152 W/m K), which means it is highly resistant to heat transfer from the engine bay. Intake temperatures play a key role in power production in forced induction engines. While other manufacturers sidestep this issue by powder coating or shielding their intake tubes, we opted to go straight to the source by choosing a material that will naturally keep intake temps down.
In addition to its excellent thermal properties, titanium has a much higher strength-to-weight ratio than aluminum, meaning that much thinner tubing can be used in our intakes. This means larger internal diameters when compared to aluminum with the same outer diameter. Our 5" titanium intake, as a result, boasts a 5% increase in intake area when compared to a 5" aluminum intake. A higher strength-to-weight ratio also means lighter parts.
Titanium Grade 4, also known as titanium CP1, is the strongest of all commercially pure titanium grades. It combines excellent corrosion resistance with good strength and toughness. This means that your intake will continue to look beautiful well past your engine's expiration date. The lack of paint or powder coating also ensures that the finish will hold up for the long run! Occasional cleaning is all that's required.
Velocity = Density = Power
Years of back-to-back testing on naturally aspirated, supercharger and turbocharged engines has shown consistent gains from smoothing and accelerating the transition of air from the filter through the intake. Our 5” air filters have internal velocity stacks cast into the base for a smooth transition from the 7” wide filter base to the 5” filter outlet. By reducing turbulence in the intake, your turbocharger doesn't have to work as hard to process the incoming air. This further reduces pressure drop at the turbo inlet and frees up some extra air density, as shown in our logs by way of lower wastegate duty. Denser air = more power!
Thoughtful Heat Shield Design
We took special care when designing our heat shield/air duct to prioritize the availability of fresh air. By increasing the volume in the lower area of the heat shield, we were able to maximize airflow around the filter without compromising heat separation. Our heat shield is designed to mate up perfectly to the edge of our large air duct, forcing air directly toward the filter and into the lower pocket of the heat shield, not over it. We further improved airflow by leaving the area behind the headlight unobstructed, allowing for the use of a headlight duct (currently in development) for a more direct air feed on the track.
Benefits:
- 20-30whp increase over a 4" intake on a full-frame setup
- Extremely lightweight
- Full access to brake reservoir without removing intake
- True 5"/125mm internal diameter from start to finish, a staggering 56% increase in inlet area over a full 4" intake!
- Available in multiple finishes (O.G. Titanium finish shown)
- 100% CP1 titanium, hand-TIG welded and back-purged for longevity
- Tested on stock turbo, hybrid, and full-frame setups for verified gains
- Proudly Made in Canada
Includes:
- 5"/125mm titanium intake pipe
- Coupler to suit a 4" turbo inlet (not compatible with stock inlet)
- 5" dual-flow air filter with built-in velocity stack
- Heat shield (not pictured)
- Air duct (not pictured)
- PCV breather line
